Matigari Adventist Welfare Organization (MAWO) was born from a simple conviction: no member should walk alone in times of sorrow. What began as a small group of friends in July 2021 is now a 136-member family bound by faith, kinship, and mutual care.
The Foundation
Upon the realization of our common desire to work together as people sharing common heritage, ideals, goals, kinship, and national origin — and upon the need to learn from past challenging experiences — we formed MAWO. We acknowledged a simple truth: emergencies, including death, will always occur, and we are better together than in isolation.
Our Objectives
- To build capacity for a benevolent fund for members and their families faced with bereavement.
- To rally members at times of bereavement by consolidating moral and financial support.

Dear Honorable Members, it is with great joy and gratitude to God that I stand before you as chairman of this noble welfare group. As we reflect on our journey, celebrate our achievements, and chart the way forward, I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to each one of you. Your commitment, sacrifice, and unity have made this group what it is today.
Our organization began earnestly in July 2021 with just a small group of visionary individuals who believed in togetherness. Initially, we wanted to preach the gospel in our motherland, Kenya. Shortly after, we saw the need to come up with a welfare group to help us and the community in times of need.
Today, that dream has grown into a strong community of 136 members — testament to our shared belief in helping one another. Since inception, we have assisted 31 members during their most difficult times, providing financial and emotional support when they needed it most. These are not just numbers — these are families that felt the warmth of this group.
Through collective effort and astute financial management, our Treasurer reports we currently have over $53,000 in our accounts — a remarkable achievement reflecting our strength and discipline.

Delayed payment of dues by some members. The fund exists to serve us all — its effectiveness depends on consistency.

We have not abandoned our original calling.
In 2022, we embarked on our first mission trip to Eburru. We preached, souls were won to Christ, bought a 2-acre piece of land and erected a sanctuary to the glory of God. Doctors and nurses treated the sick and spread joy.
We visited surrounding schools, made donations, and encouraged young people. This June, we head out on our second mission trip to replicate the same — and more. Evangelism and Welfare are like conjoined twins.

Treasurer’s Note
Our history began when friends came together to assist the late Elder Ken Muthanji. From that small group we have grown, thanks to loyal members who introduced friends and family. Subscriptions rose from $12,100 to $33,000.
To date, 31 members benefited — $155,000 total. We lost one member, the late Mr. Owen Kimani; 13 members left; 6 are at risk of being voted out due to serious delinquency. 3 claims were denied for not meeting by-law thresholds.
Challenge: $2,330 is currently owed. I propose a $50 fine for late payments, to be agreed at the AGM, to encourage timely replenishment.
